Much of the value of an Application Release Automation (ARA) solution is derived through integration with other existing systems in the (evolving) DevOps Toolchain. Without integrations, an automation system can only execute scripts and so is merely a distributed scheduler - and those scripts must be kept up to date on the all the target servers which is an overhead that negates the advantages an ARA solution should offer.
